The New Zealand members of the mayfly family Nesameletidae are revised. The two presently named species, Nesameletus ornatus and Nesameletus flavitinctus are redescribed, and three
species (N. murihiku, N. austrinus, and N. vulcanus) are added to the genus Nesameltus. The eggs and larval stages ogfthe different species are also described and associated with their respective adult stages. The diagnosis of the genus Nesameletus is specified, and the autapomorphies of the Nesameletidae are listed. The phylogenetic relationships within the genus and family are also discussed. Notes on ecology are given, and distribution maps of the species are provided. Diagnostic characters of the species are illustrated and keys are provided for all life stages.
